We are being married and having our reception at The Desmond Tutu Center in Manhattan, located on the west side of Chelsea at 180 10th Avenue between 20th & 21st Streets.
When you arrive at the main entrance on 10th Avenue, proceed through the garden up to the 19th-century Refectory for the ceremony. Unless, of course, you’re staying at The Tutu Center – they have beautiful guest rooms and we’ve arranged a room block for our party (more info on the Accommodations page) – in which case, just come on downstairs.
Directions
The Desmond Tutu Center website has excellent driving directions from all three airports, as well as from the south of NYC (Philadelphia area) and from the north (Connecticut area).
For NYC folks, the C and E train to 23rd and 8th Avenue is a mere four blocks away.
Parking
On the same directions webpage above, there is also Garage information listing two options nearby, including the GMCC Garage directly across the street at 171 10th Avenue, and accessible from the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels via the West Side Highway. Prices can vary according to season and they often run weekend and multiple-day specials.
Attire
Of all the questions you’re asked when planning a wedding, I think this one takes the cake. (pun intended, of course) We’ve been reluctant to specify the dress because it feels so awkward to instruct people what to wear. Suffice to say, while tuxedos and gowns are not necessary, flip-flops and jeans seems inappropriate to the occasion. Whatever you choose to wear from the spectrum that lies within, we are sure you will look wonderful!
